The Punjab power scene continues to be grim after the closure of all the four units of Ropar Thermal, three out of four of Lehra Mohabatt thermal has been shut down due to the coal problem. One unit of Talwandi Sabo is also shut down on technical faults.
According to a senior PSPCL official, there is no power shortage in the state and
with the change, in weather, the power demand has been reduced.
Two units each at all the three private power plants are running. Rajpura and
Talwandi Sabo is running on full load and GVK is on reduced load.
Seven running thermal units are generating about 3000 MW on Saturday afternoon.
The hydro generation from Ranjit Sagar and Mukerian hydel projects is 240 MW and total hydro generation is about 400 MW.
On the Dushehra holiday, the maximum power demand was about 8675 MW and the power supply was 1772 lakh units.
The coal stock at midnight of Friday and Saturday at Ropar and Lehra Mohabatt is sufficient for 1, 5 and 1.1 days respectively. Rajpura thermal has 2.5 days stock, Talwandi Sabo has 2.9 days stock, and GVK has 0.9 days stock.
On Friday 14 coal rakes were received at all the thermal plants in the state against a daily requirement of 22 rakes. Officials claimed that 45 coal rakes are in transit and will be received in the coming days.
The part supply of requisitioned power from Tata Mundra has been made available to PSPCL from its thermal plant in Gujarat.
