PATIALA: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Saturday surpassed its record of highest electricity supply in a day as it supplied 2,749 lakh units. Hot and relatively dry weather conditions have increased power requirement. The record supply was made even as most of the government offices, public institutions, colleges and schools are closed in the state on Saturday.
PSPCL chief managing director Baldev Singh Sran said the power demand on Saturday was 12059 megawatt (MW) during peak hours. On July 10, PSPCL had set a new record when it supplied 2,745 lakh units meeting 12,556 MW demand during peak hours, he said.
Sran claimed that despite such huge energy demand and shortfall in availability of hydro power, PSPCL is supplying uninterrupted 8 hour supply to agriculture consumers with no cut on general and industrial consumers.
He said due to round-theclock monitoring, PSPCL is prepared to continue to meet with the rising power demand during humid weather conditions in the coming days.
