The UT Powermen Union on Monday announced a three-day strike from 11 pm on February 21 against handing over the electricity department to a private company.
On Monday, a seminar was organised against power privatization at Public Convention Centre in Sector 36-A
Opposition parties, trade unions, public representatives and employees' organizations rallied against the decision. It was decided they will hold a dharna in Sector 17 on February 15. Later, a joint delegation of political parties, farmer groups, resident welfare association and trade unions will submit a memorandum to the UT administrator. In the seminar, it was decided to strongly support the strike. It was also decided to hold consumer meetings in all the sectors to give information about the impact on consumers after privatisation of the department. TNN
