Telangana State Power utilities union members on Thursday said they will hold demonstrations before all generating stations and old circle headquarters during lunch hour on January 8 against the Union government decision to amend Electricity Bill 2003. The union members gave representation to Chairman and Managing Director of TSGENCO and TRANSCO, D Prabhkar Rao, on the peaceful protest. The members said the agitation was intended to oppose the Central government’s decision to amend the Electricity Act 2003 which was anti-consumer and anti-employees. “The Central government is trying to push public sector undertakings into further financial crisis and the common people to face the burden of higher tariff,” said Joint Action Committee representatives Rathnakar Rao and Padma Reddy. They also demanded that the Central government withdraw the proposed amendment Bill which also aims at snatching away the powers of State governments. The power utilities unions and associations in its representation said the two-day protest will also include maha dharna at Vidyut Soudha on January 9 at 11 am. |
