Observing that privatization of the power sector in Jammu and Kashmir will hit the consumers and traders hard as the tariff would increase many folds, Chairman People's Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has demanded roll back of the move at the earliest. He said privatization of power will have serious ramifications on our economy and will leave consumers at mercy of the sweet will of private players.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hakeem Yaseen while voicing concern over the move to privatiz power sector in Jammu and Kashmir, said the reports suggest, the tariff after privatization would witness a 200 percent hike, as the per unit cost for the consumer would increase up to Rs 8 from the current Rs 2 to 3. He said the central government should not take the hilly Jammu and Kashmirre union territory at par, while privatizing the power sector in all the union territories of the country. He said the move to privatize the power sector has already evoked opposition from the All India Power Engineers' Federation (AIPEF) and the Jammu & Kashmir Power Engineers and Employees Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) too has expressed it's resentment again any such move to privatize power sector.
