Punjab Government today appointed Baldev Singh Sran as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for a period of two years. His experience in thermal and power distribution played a major role in his selection. The state government has conducted an interview for the post apparently the first time. He had retired from PSPCL after 34 years of service in February this year.
Baldev Singh has vast experience in all the three main fields related to Electricity include Generation, Transmission and Distribution. He worked for more than 19 years in generation, 6 years in Transmission and 8 years in distribution in different capacities in PSEB and PSPCL. As Chief Engineer Fuel, he looked after fuel management for state owned thermal plants and Independent Power Producers on behalf of PSPCL. Baldev Singh was honoured by the PSPCL for the recognition of the Lehra Mohabat thermal plant at the national level in 2010. At the thermal plant, he was involved in project planning, construction, operation and maintenance.
As Chief Engineer (ARR and TR) he had handled all the issues related to Tariff and Regulatory matters on behalf of PSPCL and also coordinating for Tariff and Regulatory matters with PSERC, CERC, APTEL and PSTCL. The hydro power generation increased by 22 per cent in 2017-18 during his stint as Chief engineer Hydel due to his efforts.
