NANGAL: More than 80 cattle were swept away in the Sutlej at Kalitran village after water was released from Nangal dam into the river .
The incident occurred when the villagers took their cattle for grazing near the Sutlej on Sunday morning. When the animals were crossing the river, the sudden hush of water swept them away. It is learnt 12,000 cusecs water was released.
The dam is managed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Nangal SDM Kannu Garg said the BBMB had informed the administration about the release of water and they made public announcement in this regard. The BBMB has been releasing water from Bhakra dam to maintain water level. The water is released into canals and then in the Sutlej from Nangal dam.
